Looking for computer repairs in Windsor? Computer Technicians is here to help. Founded in 2016 and Aussie owned and operated, our hand-picked team of qualified computer engineers are extensively trained in all PC, Mac, laptop and desktop repairs and upgrades. We provide fast, same-day service to your home or business.

Windsor is a dense inner suburb packed with terrace homes, apartments and small businesses, and that density creates some very specific tech problems we deal with regularly out here. The biggest one is Wi-Fi interference caused by channel congestion in apartment buildings where dozens of competing networks are all fighting for the same frequencies. This causes dropouts, slow speeds and unstable connections that look like an ISP problem but are actually a Wi-Fi environment problem. The double brick walls common in Windsor’s older terrace homes make this worse by scattering signals unpredictably between rooms. We also see USB controller faults on Windows machines after botched updates, MacBook batteries swelling in poorly ventilated home office setups causing trackpads to stop clicking, and RAM failures on older desktop builds in small businesses along Chapel Street that have been running continuously for years. Whether you’re dealing with an Asus laptop throwing a BSOD after a Windows update, an iMac with a failing GPU or a home network that just will not stay stable in your apartment, we will troubleshoot your problems and fix it with a minimal amount of fuss.

    Can’t find a solution? You don’t pay a cent.

Recent Job – RAM Failure & PSU Replacement, Chapel Street, Windsor

A client on Chapel Street contacted us after their custom built Windows desktop kept throwing random BSODs throughout the day with no consistent error code. The machine was being used in the back office of a small retail business to run their point of sale software, inventory system and accounting package simultaneously. The crashes had been happening for several weeks and were getting more frequent, causing the business to lose transaction data on several occasions when the machine went down mid sale.

    computer stuck in BSOD

Our technician visited the same day and ran a full diagnostic. Inconsistent BSOD error codes with no single repeating fault are one of the trickier diagnostic scenarios because they can point toward several different hardware faults. The most common causes are failing RAM, an unstable PSU delivering inconsistent voltage under load or a motherboard with failing capacitors. We started with Memtest86 to rule out RAM. The first pass came back clean but the second pass flagged errors on the second DIMM slot, a pattern consistent with a RAM stick that is beginning to fail intermittently rather than failing outright. Intermittent RAM failures are particularly hard to diagnose because the machine can pass a single test pass and appear healthy while still causing instability under sustained workloads.

We replaced the faulty 8GB DDR4 stick with a Corsair Vengeance LPX 8GB DDR4 3200MHz module. We chose the Corsair Vengeance LPX over a direct like for like replacement for the same reason we always avoid replacing a failed stick with the same model from the same batch. If one stick from a matched kit has failed, the remaining stick from that kit is statistically more likely to follow. The Corsair Vengeance LPX has a strong reliability track record in workstation builds and carries a lifetime warranty, making it the right long term choice for a machine in daily business use.

While we had the machine open we also ran a PSU stress test using OCCT. The original PSU, a generic no-brand 500W unit, was showing voltage fluctuations on the 12V rail under load that were outside acceptable tolerances. A PSU delivering unstable voltage under load will cause exactly the kind of random system instability the client had been experiencing, and combined with the failing RAM it explained why the BSODs had been so inconsistent and difficult to pin down. We replaced the generic PSU with a Corsair CV550 550W 80 Plus Bronze unit. We chose the Corsair CV550 over cheaper alternatives because it uses a proper voltage regulation circuit that keeps the 12V rail stable under sustained load, carries a three year warranty and is a known reliable unit in office workstation applications. A cheap replacement PSU on a machine running business critical software all day is not a risk worth taking. After replacing both the RAM stick and the PSU we ran the machine through an extended stress test for two hours with no BSODs and no voltage fluctuations. Client has had zero crashes since and said it was the most reliable the machine had ever run.

Frequently Asked Questions – Computer Repairs Windsor

Why is my Wi-Fi so bad in my Windsor apartment?

Apartment buildings in Windsor are one of the worst environments for Wi-Fi because there are dozens of competing networks all fighting for the same 2.4GHz and 5GHz channels. This causes interference, dropouts and slow speeds that have nothing to do with your ISP or modem. We can assess your specific Wi-Fi environment, reconfigure your router to less congested channels and install a mesh system if needed to give you reliable coverage throughout your apartment. Read more in our Wi-Fi interference case study.

My MacBook trackpad has stopped clicking properly. What is causing that?

A trackpad that stops clicking on a MacBook is almost always caused by a swollen battery pushing up against the trackpad from below. This is a common fault on MacBooks that have been used in warm, poorly ventilated spaces for extended periods. We replace the battery with a genuine grade A cell and check the trackpad for any permanent damage from the swelling. Read our guide on whether it is worth repairing your MacBook if you are unsure whether to fix or replace.

My NBN keeps dropping out in Windsor. What should I do?

NBN dropouts in Windsor are often caused by either a failing modem or Wi-Fi interference being mistaken for a connection problem. Check our guide on why NBN is slow and our post on what to try when NBN keeps dropping out. If those steps don’t resolve it, call us and we will come out and diagnose it properly.

Do you work on both Windows and Mac in Windsor?

Yes, we work on both Windows computers and Apple Macs including MacBooks, iMacs and Mac Minis. We handle everything from data recovery and logic board repairs to SSD and RAM upgrades and software issues.
