Recent Job – Brother J1100DW Fix – Carrum Downs, VIC

Our client in Carrum Downs had issues with printing on their new Brother J1100DW.

Turns out it was an issue with Band steering on their Deco mesh router.

We logged into the Deco management app and created a separate 2.4GHz only guest network and ran the Brother wireless setup wizard again and pointed it at the 2.4GHz network. It connected first attempt.

We then installed the full Brother driver package on the client’s Windows 11 laptop and confirmed printing was working from both the laptop and the client’s iPhone via AirPrint.

The client also wanted to use the scan-to-PC function. This requires the Brother iPrint&Scan software to be installed and a scan profile to be configured on the PC. We installed it, set up a scan profile pointing to the client’s Documents folder and did a test scan from the printer’s control panel.

It landed in the right folder first go.

We also configured the scan-to-email function using the client’s Gmail account via SMTP. Gmail requires an app password rather than the account password for third party SMTP access. We generated the app password, entered it into the Brother Web Based Management interface and sent a test scan to the client’s email. Delivered within 30 seconds.

Everything working. Printing, scanning to PC and scanning to email all confirmed before we left.
