Recent Job Done – WiFi extension to Granny Flat in Mornington

decox20

We got a call from one of our existing clients in Mornington. Basically, her son was complaining that the Internet speed was very poor in a granny flat located at the rear end of the property. Also, they had 2 Wi-Fi SSIDs and got tired of switching from one to the other every time they roamed around the property.

Now their existing setup was a simple TP Link Deco x20, acting as the main router, and also an Ubiquiti AP Lite and that was it.

So, when we tested the speed at the exact same spot, we found that the speed was only about 80Mbps, but they were on a 500Mbps NBN connection.

The Ubiquiti access point doesn’t have Wi-Fi 6, which most of the new devices like your iPhones 16s and MacBook Airs have already built in. Now this clearly tells us that there was something wrong with the AP or the internal wiring was probably CAT5 and not CAT5e or CAT6.

We upgraded the x20 to an x75 Pro and disconnected the Ubiquiti access point, meshed another x75 Pro and placed it in the guest area of the house.

Once this was done, we found that the speeds shot up to 490-520Mbps.
