dell laptop repair sandringham

Device: Dell Latitude 5510 Laptop
Location: Abbott St, Sandringham
Issue: Dell latitude not booting into Windows

The Problem

We had a customer ring us from Abbot St, Sandringham regarding her Dell Latitude 5510 which had stopped booting into Windows 11 completely.  It would show up with the Dell splash screen, display the BIOS and then nothing after. She had taken it to a local shop nearby and they mentioned that the data is unrecoverable – we wanted to give it a short.
No recent backups unfortunately.

The Solution

The laptop wasn’t old – but the SSD had shown signs of wear.

We tested the NVME but saw that there was no readable partition information. Booted from our trusty Linux boot and saw the Toshiba BG4 256 NVME throwing random I/O errors on read attempts – so not completely dead but on its last leg – confirmed by Crystaldiskinfo.

We attempted a sector-by-sector clone of the failing SSD and recovered about 94 percent of the data – the remaining looked like system files and older files that she didn’t quite need.

Replaced the SSD with a Samsung NVME – 500GB. Installed Windows 11 Pro and transferred her documents, desktop, downloads across. Setup the printer, emails etc.

We also updated the BIOS version from 1.10 to 1.16 (latest supported version) using the Dell BIOS update utility.

She was satisfied everything that she needed was recovered.

If you have similar IT issues with your PC, laptop, printer etc, our local Sandringham computer repair team will be happy to assist!
