Recent Job: Fixing Random Wi-Fi Disconnections on an Epson Printer in Tooradin
Location: Matthew St, Tooradin
Devices concerned: Epson WorkForce 3640 & TP-Link AX1500 Router
Problem: Printer dropping off the wireless network multiple times a week, or even a day.
The issue
We had a client on Matthew St, Tooradin ring us for connecting their Epson WorkForce 3640 to their computer. The issue was that it kept dropping off Wi-Fi several times a week or maybe even several times a day at times.
The solution
A few things we did:
1. Disabled Wi-Fi power saving mode in the printer’s network settings
- Changed the sleep timer to 30 minutes rather than the default – 1 minute
- Updated the printer’s firmware to the latest version (we were aware Epson had released a firmware updated addressing issues about wireless stability for this specific Epson model)
We also performed checks on the router. The client’s AX1500 TP Link router had DHCP lease times set to default 24 hours – which is fine, but we went ahead and assigned the printer a static IP outside of the DHCP range, regardless.
The result
We tested the printer by leaving it idle for over an hour and sending a few print jobs from 3 different devices at random intervals. The printer seemed to be better connected to the Wi-Fi – more stable and printed jobs on the first attempt every time, where before it used to stutter for a bit or even miss out jobs from their laptops.
