Got a computer problem in Karingal?

Computer Technicians sends qualified engineers to your door the same day. We have been looking after homes and businesses across Karingal and the broader Frankston area since 2016, handling everything from PC and Mac repairs to laptop upgrades and network installs. Every technician on our team is a qualified computer engineer. Aussie owned, Microsoft Partner certified and the job is not done until it is tested and working.

Karingal is a well-established residential suburb in the City of Frankston, sitting inland from the Frankston foreshore with a large community of families and older residents in a mix of brick homes and newer townhouse developments. The tech challenges we deal with here are typical of an established outer suburban area with a broad age range of hardware in circulation.

Windows 11 upgrade questions and incompatibility issues are a growing call from Karingal, particularly from households running laptops that are a few years old and unsure whether their machine can make the move from Windows 10 now that Microsoft has ended mainstream support.

Slow computers on ageing spinning hard drives are a constant, as are virus and malware infections on shared family machines. NBN connectivity issues on FTTN infrastructure serving parts of Karingal are another recurring job, with older modems producing dropouts that worsen in cooler months as copper line resistance increases.

Wi-Fi coverage across the larger brick homes and properties with separate double garages or home offices at the rear is also a regular frustration out here. Whether you’re dealing with a laptop stuck on Windows 10 that you are not sure can upgrade, an HP desktop with an ageing HDD grinding to a halt or an NBN connection that drops out every cold morning, we will troubleshoot your problems and fix it with a minimal amount of fuss.

    Can’t find a solution? You don’t pay a cent.

Recent Job – Asus VivoBook Windows 11 Upgrade, Karingal Drive, Karingal

A client on Karingal Drive contacted us after receiving a notification that Windows 10 support had ended and they needed to upgrade to Windows 11. windows 11 upgrade ASUS Vivobook Karingal

Their laptop was an Asus VivoBook 15 X512FA running an Intel Core i5-8265U and they were unsure whether it was eligible. They had clicked the Windows 11 upgrade prompt once and received a compatibility error without any clear explanation of what the issue was.

We ran the Microsoft PC Health Check tool and reviewed the BIOS configuration. The hardware met every Windows 11 requirement including the correct CPU generation, RAM and storage, but Secure Boot was disabled in the BIOS and the TPM 2.0 module, which was present on the board, had not been enabled. Windows 11 requires both to be active and the upgrade prompt blocks without them regardless of how capable the hardware is.

We enabled Secure Boot, activated TPM 2.0 through the Intel PTT settings and confirmed the disk partition style was GPT rather than MBR, which Secure Boot also requires. After saving and rebooting we ran the PC Health Check again, which returned all checks passed. We then ran the Windows 11 upgrade through Windows Update, which completed cleanly.

We confirmed all drivers, applications and personal files were intact after the upgrade and ran Windows Update to pull in any pending driver updates for the new OS version.

Client was on Windows 11 and fully supported within the afternoon.

Frequently Asked Questions – Computer Repairs Karingal

My laptop says it cannot upgrade to Windows 11 but it seems like a fairly recent machine. Why?

The most common reason a capable laptop fails the Windows 11 compatibility check is that Secure Boot or TPM 2.0 is disabled in the BIOS rather than a genuine hardware incompatibility. Many laptops ship with these settings turned off by default or have them disabled after a previous repair or OS reinstall. We check the BIOS configuration, enable the correct settings and confirm the disk partition style is GPT before running the upgrade. In most cases this resolves the compatibility block without any hardware changes needed. Read our guide on CSM support and how it affects Secure Boot and Windows 11 eligibility for more technical context.

Is it safe to upgrade to Windows 11 on my existing laptop?

Yes, provided the hardware meets the requirements and the upgrade is done correctly. We always back up all data before starting any OS upgrade and confirm all applications and drivers are working correctly after the upgrade is complete before considering the job done. Read our post on Windows 11 performance for more context on what to expect after upgrading.

Do you come out to Karingal the same day?

Yes, in most cases we can be at your home or business the same day. Call us on 0484 357 559 or hit the book now button and one of our technicians will get back to you quickly.

My NBN drops out more in cold weather. What is causing that?

Cold weather NBN dropouts on FTTN connections are caused by increased resistance in copper lines at lower temperatures, which pushes marginal connections below the threshold a modem can maintain sync on. A modem upgrade to a unit with better tolerance under degraded line conditions reduces dropout frequency significantly. Read our guide on why home internet keeps dropping out for more detail.

My computer is running slowly. Does it need replacing?

In most cases no. Slow computers in Karingal are almost always caused by an ageing spinning HDD rather than a fundamental hardware fault. Read our guide on factors to consider before buying a new computer and our post on why SSDs are worth the investment before making a decision.

Do you work on both Windows and Mac in Karingal?

Yes, we work on both Windows computers and Apple Macs including MacBooks, iMacs and Mac Minis. We handle everything from Windows 11 upgrades and virus removal to SSD and RAM upgrades and full network installs.

What warranty do you provide on repairs?

We back all our work with a 12-month workmanship guarantee, well above the three month standard most repair shops offer. If we can’t find a solution, you don’t pay a cent.

Do you service surrounding areas as well as Karingal?

Yes, we also service Frankston, Langwarrin, Seaford and Skye. Feel free to pass our name on to your neighbours, workmates and sports groups.
