Got a computer problem in Berwick? Computer Technicians has been repairing PCs, Macs and laptops for homes and businesses across Berwick since 2016. Founded by Brian Mathew. Our engineers are qualified, full time and on the tools every day. We come to you, same day, and we get it sorted.

Berwick is a well-established outer south-eastern suburb with a large community of families, home based workers and small businesses, many of whom rely on their computers for both work and personal use every day. Software errors and application failures are a regular call from Berwick, particularly in home offices where business software like Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft 365 and accounting packages stop working correctly after

Windows updates or licence conflicts without any obvious explanation. Slow computers are another constant job, particularly older desktops and laptops where a failing or simply ageing HDD is dragging performance down to the point of being unusable. We also deal regularly with NBN FTTN dropouts in the older streets of Berwick where copper line quality varies and ageing modems on marginal connections produce outages that ISP support teams cannot identify remotely.

Wi-Fi coverage across the larger homes and blocks common throughout the suburb is another recurring frustration, with back rooms, home offices and alfresco areas going without usable signal from a router at the front of the house. Whether you’re dealing with Adobe Acrobat throwing a persistent error on your HP laptop, a Lenovo desktop with a CRITICAL_OBJECT_TERMINATION BSOD from corrupted system files or an NBN connection that loses sync every time it rains, we will troubleshoot your problems and fix it with a minimal amount of fuss.

    Can’t find a solution? You don’t pay a cent.

Recent Job – Adobe Acrobat Reader Error on HP ProBook, Clyde Road, Berwick

A client on Clyde Road contacted us after Adobe Acrobat Reader had stopped opening PDF files on their HP ProBook 450 G8. Clicking any PDF would cause Acrobat to launch briefly, display a spinning cursor and then close without any error message. The client was a bookkeeper working from home and relied on Acrobat daily for reviewing client documents and signed contracts. A Windows update had installed overnight and the problem had appeared the following morning.

The cause was a corrupted Acrobat installation combined with a conflict between the updated Windows WebView2 runtime component and the version of Acrobat Reader installed on the machine. Windows updates periodically push updated versions of the Edge WebView2 runtime, which Acrobat Reader uses internally for certain rendering functions. When the WebView2 version jumps significantly, older Acrobat installations can lose the expected API bindings and crash silently on launch without generating a visible error to the user. HP ProBook Adobe Acrobat issue fixed

We uninstalled Acrobat Reader completely using the Adobe Acrobat Reader Cleaner Tool rather than the standard Windows uninstaller, which removes all registry entries and cached data that a standard uninstall leaves behind. We then downloaded and installed the current Acrobat Reader release directly from Adobe’s enterprise download portal rather than through the Acrobat update mechanism, which ensures a clean full installation without inheriting any cached configuration from the corrupted version.

Acrobat opened cleanly on the first attempt and all PDF files rendered correctly. We also updated the HP ProBook’s Intel Graphics driver through HP Support Assistant, which had a pending update flagged since the same Windows update session and can contribute to rendering instability in document applications on that platform. Job done.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Adobe Acrobat stopped working after a Windows update. How do I fix that?

Windows updates can break Adobe Acrobat Reader by updating the Edge WebView2 runtime to a version that conflicts with an older Acrobat installation. Simply reinstalling through Windows Apps and Features often fails because cached registry entries from the broken installation persist. The correct fix is to use the Adobe Acrobat Reader Cleaner Tool for a complete removal and then install the current release fresh from Adobe’s download portal. If the problem persists after that, a pending graphics driver update is often a contributing factor and worth applying through your laptop manufacturer’s support software.

My laptop is running slowly. Does it need replacing?

In most cases no. Slow laptops in Berwick are almost always caused by an ageing spinning HDD rather than a fundamental hardware fault. Replacing it with an SSD delivers a dramatic performance improvement at a fraction of the cost of a new machine. Read our guide on factors to consider before buying a new computer and our post on why SSDs are worth the investment before making a decision.

Do you come out to Berwick the same day?

Yes, in most cases we can be at your home or business the same day. Call us on 0484 357 559 or hit the book now button and one of our technicians will get back to you quickly.

My NBN drops out more in wet weather. What is causing that?

Wet weather NBN dropouts on FTTN connections in Berwick are commonly caused by moisture entering cable pits and junction boxes in the copper network, which increases line resistance and causes marginal connections to lose sync. A modem upgrade to a unit with better tolerance under degraded line conditions significantly reduces dropout frequency. Read our guide on why home internet keeps dropping out and our post on what to try when NBN keeps dropping out.

Can you help with business software issues, not just hardware?

Yes, software troubleshooting including application errors, licence conflicts, Microsoft 365 issues and Adobe software problems is a regular part of what we do. If your business software has stopped working, call us. Read our small business IT support service page for more detail on what we cover.

Do you work on both Windows and Mac in Berwick?

Yes, we work on both Windows computers and Apple Macs including MacBooks, iMacs and Mac Minis. We handle everything from software errors and virus removal to SSD and RAM upgrades and full network installs.

What warranty do you provide on repairs?

We back all our work with a 12-month workmanship guarantee, well above the three month standard most repair shops offer. If we can’t find a solution, you don’t pay a cent.

Do you service surrounding areas as well as Berwick?

Yes, we also service Harkaway, Narre Warren, Beaconsfield and Clyde. Feel free to pass our name on to your neighbours, workmates and sports groups.
