Recent Job – HP Laptop Local Backup Setup with AOMEI Backupper, Harkaway Road, Harkaway

A client on Harkaway Road contacted us after a conversation with a neighbour whose laptop drive had failed with no backup in place, taking years of photos and business records with it.

The experience had prompted the client to get their own HP laptop properly backed up before the same thing happened to them. The machine contained five years of family photos, personal financial documents, their children’s school project archives and a locally installed accounting software database used for the family’s small rural business. They had purchased a WD Elements 1TB portable hard drive and wanted us to set up a proper automated backup system using it.

We installed AOMEI Backupper Standard. AOMEI Backupper was chosen over alternatives like Windows Backup and Restore, Macrium Reflect Free and Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows Free for specific and practical reasons. Windows Backup and Restore, while built into Windows, creates a system image backup that is less granular and more cumbersome to restore individual files from than a file-level backup solution.

Macrium Reflect Free is an excellent tool but its interface is more technical than AOMEI Backupper Standard and requires more configuration knowledge to set up correctly for a non-technical user who will need to manage the backup independently going forward. Veeam Agent is powerful but again skews toward more technically confident users.

Our techie – Brian – configured two backup jobs. The first was a full file backup of the Documents, Desktop, Pictures, Videos and the accounting software database folder, scheduled to run automatically every day at 11pm when the machine is typically plugged in and idle overnight.
