Are you having trouble with your computer or tech? Looking for computer repairs in Boronia?

Founded in 2016, Computer Technicians is here to help. We are Aussie owned and operated, our hand-picked team of qualified computer engineers are extensively trained in all PC, Mac, laptop and desktop repairs and upgrades. We provide fast, same-day service to your home or business.

Boronia sits at the foot of the Dandenong Ranges foothills, a well-established suburb with a strong community of families, tradespeople and small business owners across a mix of older homes and properties on larger blocks. The environment here creates some hardware challenges that are specific to the area. Fine organic dust from the surrounding bushland accumulates inside computer cases and laptop vents faster than in flat suburban Melbourne, causing CPU thermal throttling, fan failures and premature PSU faults on machines that have never been professionally cleaned. Printer and peripheral setup problems are another regular call from Boronia, particularly after modem or mesh network upgrades where devices that previously worked on the old network fail to reconnect on the new one.

NBN connectivity on FTTN infrastructure serving parts of Boronia is also a recurring job, with older modems dropping sync on marginal copper lines particularly in cooler weather. Whether you’re dealing with a printer that refuses to connect after a mesh upgrade, a Lenovo laptop with dust related thermal throttling grinding performance to a halt or an NBN connection that drops out during peak hours, we will troubleshoot your problems and fix it with a minimal amount of fuss.

Recent Job – Brother HL-L2713DW Not Connecting to New Mesh Network, Boronia Road, Boronia

A client on Cypress Ave contacted us after their Brother HL-L2713DW laser printer stopped connecting to the network following a new mesh Wi-Fi system installation. Every other device in the house had connected without issue. The printer was showing an error on its display and failing to find the network during the wireless setup wizard despite the correct Wi-Fi password being entered.

The Brother HL-L2713DW only supports the 2.4GHz Wi-Fi band. Their new mesh system had been configured with a unified SSID that the router was broadcasting across both 2.4GHz and 5GHz simultaneously, which is standard on most modern mesh setups. When the printer attempted to connect it was encountering the 5GHz band from the nearest node and failing because its wireless adapter simply cannot communicate on that frequency.

The fix was to enable a separate 2.4GHz only guest network on the mesh system, connect the printer to that network and add the printer to all household computers pointing to the new network address. We also added a note to the mesh app so the client understood why the printer sits on a different network to everything else. Printer connected first attempt, printing from all devices within twenty minutes.

Read our guide on the difference between 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi for more context on why this affects older devices.

Frequently Asked Questions – Computer Repairs Boronia

My printer stopped connecting to Wi-Fi after I upgraded to a mesh network. What is causing that?

Most modern mesh systems broadcast on both 2.4GHz and 5GHz under a single network name. Older printers and some other IoT devices only support 2.4GHz and cannot connect to a unified network where the nearest node is broadcasting 5GHz. The solution is to set up a separate 2.4GHz only network or guest network on the mesh system specifically for 2.4GHz-only devices. Read our printer and scanner setup service page and our guide on the difference between 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi for more detail.

Why does my computer accumulate dust so much faster in Boronia?

Boronia’s location at the foot of the Dandenong Ranges foothills means higher levels of fine organic particulate matter in the air compared to flat suburban Melbourne. This gets drawn into computer cases and laptop vents faster than in most suburbs. We recommend professional cleaning every six to twelve months for any machine in the Boronia area. Read more about protecting your PC from dust on our blog.

Do you come out to Boronia the same day?

Yes, in most cases we can be at your home or business the same day. Call us on 0484 357 559 or hit the book now button and one of our technicians will get back to you quickly.

My NBN drops out in cooler weather. What is causing that?

Cold weather NBN dropouts on FTTN connections are caused by increased copper line resistance at lower temperatures pushing marginal connections below the threshold a modem can maintain sync on. A modem upgrade to a unit with better tolerance under degraded line conditions reduces dropout frequency significantly. Read our guide on why home internet keeps dropping out for more context.

Can you set up or fix my printer in Boronia?

Yes, printer and scanner setup is a regular job in Boronia especially after mesh network upgrades. We handle wireless printer configuration, 2.4GHz band fixes, driver reinstallation and network sharing setup for all major brands including Brother, HP, Canon and Epson.

Do you work on both Windows and Mac in Boronia?

Yes, we work on both Windows computers and Apple Macs including MacBooks, iMacs and Mac Minis. We handle everything from printer setup and dust cleaning to SSD and RAM upgrades and virus removal.

What warranty do you provide on repairs?

We back all our work with a 12-month workmanship guarantee, well above the three month standard most repair shops offer. If we can’t find a solution, you don’t pay a cent.

Do you service surrounding areas as well as Boronia?
