Are you looking for a reliable computer repair service in Oakleigh?

Here’s a recent job that we just completed last week around you.

    Location: Banksia st, Oakleigh

Device concerned: HP Pavilion Slimline Desktop

    Problem: Frequent Intermittent Reboots.

    The issue:

We had a client on Banksia st, Oakleigh ring us the other day for a computer repair. Their old but reliable HP Pavilion Slimline desktops had been restarting on a loop randomly without any warnings for a couple of weeks, just displaying a black screen and nothing else. Random restart computer repair in Oakleigh

When we inspected, we couldn’t find a pattern to it. It would just happen randomly. At times, it would run for a few minutes without any issues and at times it would just restart minutes after it was turned on.

There weren’t any messages on the screen – just a black screen and the “Automatic Repair” screen soon after – as soon on the photo.

We deduced that the reboot could be linked to a hardware fault rather than anything to do with the software installed. So, we started with a full hardware diagnostic first, before we touched the software side of things.

    Troubleshooting:

    1. We ran Memory Tests and that came back clean which rules out RAM
    2. We checked CPU and GPU temperatures and they were within the normal range
    3. We then stress tested the CPU & Memory and found that the CPU temperature shot to 100c in 2 minutes. This clearly indicates a case of overheating.
    4. On examining the CPU’s thermal paste, we found that it was dried up.

    The Fix:

We did a full desktop PC clean up and removed all dust and debris. We replaced the thermal paste with a high performance one from Thermal Grizzly.

We stress tested the CPU for about an hour at the temperature was only around 70c-80c which is well within the normal range for such stress tests.

Ran some system file scans and disk error checks, which came up with a few error fixes. The PC started working well soon after.
