Longwarry is a small rural township on the South Gippsland Highway between Pakenham and Drouin, sitting at the gateway to Gippsland with a mix of residential properties, hobby farms, small businesses and light industrial operators. The tech challenges here reflect that rural and semi-rural character. NBN connectivity in Longwarry is predominantly on FTTN copper or fixed wireless infrastructure, and the distances from exchange nodes combined with the moisture that the Gippsland corridor climate introduces into cable pits means line quality here can be more variable than in suburban Melbourne, producing dropouts that frustrate residents who have been told by their ISP that the line is fine.
Rural and semi-rural properties with multiple buildings spread across a block are a regular Wi-Fi job, with single routers completely unable to provide usable coverage to sheds, workshops and home offices at the rear of larger properties. Small businesses and farming operations in and around Longwarry increasingly need properly configured network infrastructure rather than the consumer grade equipment most people start with, including managed switches, PoE access points and VLAN separated networks for business and personal use. Whether you’re dealing with a laptop on its last legs that needs sorting before harvest season, a slow NBN connection that has been underperforming for months or a small business that needs a proper network setup for the first time, we will troubleshoot your problems and fix it with a minimal amount of fuss.
No fix – no pay! That simple.

Recent Job – TP-Link T1600G-28PS Managed Switch Setup, Racecourse Road, Longwarry
A client on Racecourse Road contacted us to configure a new TP-Link T1600G-28PS 24-port PoE managed switch they had purchased for their small rural business. The business operated from a property with a main office building, a processing shed and a staff amenities building, each requiring wired network connections and wireless access points powered over ethernet.
The client had purchased the switch based on a recommendation but had no networking background and needed it configured correctly from scratch before it could go into service.
The TP-Link T1600G-28PS is a Layer 2 managed switch with 24 x 10/100/1000Mbps PoE ports and 4 SFP uplink slots, capable of delivering up to 192W of total PoE budget across its ports. Out of the box it requires manual configuration through its web management interface before it can be deployed effectively in a business environment. We accessed the switch management interface, updated the firmware to the current stable release and then worked through the configuration systematically.
We created three VLANs: one for the business network carrying wired workstation and PoE access point traffic, one for a guest network accessible to clients and visitors and one for PoE camera and security devices. We configured the 802.1Q VLAN tagging on each port according to which building and device type each port served, set up spanning tree protocol to prevent broadcast storms in the event of a cabling loop, configured port-based QoS to prioritise VoIP traffic on the office building ports and enabled SNMP for network monitoring.
We then powered up the three TP-Link EAP670 access points connected to designated PoE ports, confirmed each was receiving the correct VLAN tagged traffic and tested connectivity from devices on each VLAN. Business network, guest network and security camera network were all operating on correctly isolated segments with no cross-VLAN traffic and full internet access on the business and guest VLANs. Client had a properly segmented business network running across all three buildings from a single switch, which they had not had before.
Frequently Asked Questions – Computer Repairs Longwarry
Can you configure a managed network switch for my small business in Longwarry?
Yes, managed switch configuration including VLAN setup, QoS, spanning tree protocol and PoE port assignment is something we handle regularly for small businesses throughout the Pakenham and Gippsland corridor. A properly configured managed switch allows you to separate business, guest and IoT device traffic, prioritise critical applications and power access points and cameras over ethernet without separate power supplies. Read our network installation service page and our hardware and network upgrades page for more detail.
My NBN keeps dropping out and my ISP says the line is fine. What could it be?
ISP remote testing only checks signal quality at the exchange end. Problems with the modem, cabling between the NBN connection point and the modem or joins and splitters on the telephone line are invisible to remote diagnostics but can cause significant dropout and performance issues in Longwarry’s FTTN and fixed wireless environment. Read our guide on why home internet keeps dropping out and our post on what to try when NBN keeps dropping out. We also cover NBN alternatives for properties where existing infrastructure consistently underperforms.
Do you come out to Longwarry the same day?
Yes, in most cases we can be at your home or business the same day. Call us on 0484 357 559 or hit the book now button and one of our technicians will get back to you quickly.
Can you set up Wi-Fi that covers my whole rural property including outbuildings?
Yes, rural properties with multiple buildings spread across a block are a regular job for us in the Gippsland corridor. We assess your property and recommend the right combination of managed access points or mesh nodes to give you reliable coverage throughout. Read our post on NBN and Wi-Fi options for separate outbuildings for more detail.
My laptop is running slowly. Does it need replacing?
In most cases no. Slow laptops are almost always caused by an ageing spinning HDD rather than a fundamental hardware fault. Read our guide on factors to consider before buying a new computer and our post on why SSDs are worth the investment before making a decision.
Do you work on both Windows and Mac in Longwarry?
Yes, we work on both Windows computers and Apple Macs including MacBooks, iMacs and Mac Minis. We handle everything from managed network installs and virus removal to SSD and RAM upgrades and data recovery.
What warranty do you provide on repairs?
We back all our work with a 12-month workmanship guarantee, well above the three month standard most repair shops offer. If we can’t find a solution, you don’t pay a cent.
Do you service surrounding areas as well as Longwarry?
Yes, we also service Pakenham, Bunyip, Garfield and Tynong. Feel free to pass our name on to your neighbours, workmates and sports groups.
