Looking for computer repairs in Glen Iris?
Computer Technicians is here to help. Founded in 2016 and Aussie owned and operated, our hand-picked team of qualified computer engineers are extensively trained in all PC, Mac, laptop and desktop repairs and upgrades. We provide fast, same-day service to your home or business.
Glen Iris is one of Melbourne’s most established inner suburbs, full of large period homes, double storey Edwardian and Victorian properties and a high concentration of professionals working from home. The housing stock here creates some very specific tech problems we deal with regularly. Thick double brick and bluestone walls are the biggest Wi-Fi enemy in Glen Iris, scattering signals between rooms and floors in ways that a single router simply cannot overcome, leaving home offices at the back of the property or upstairs working off a barely usable connection. We also see a high volume of Apple Mac repairs out here given the demographic, particularly iMacs running slowly on ageing Fusion Drives that have never been upgraded and MacBook Pros with thermal paste dried out from years of sustained work from home use. Smart home device overload is another regular job in Glen Iris, where clients have accumulated dozens of Wi-Fi connected devices that are saturating the 2.4GHz band and causing everything from video call dropouts to printer connectivity failures. Whether you’re dealing with a MacBook Pro thermal throttling badly on video calls, a Windows desktop throwing a BSOD with a CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED error after a failed update or a home network that falls apart the moment more than a few devices are connected, we will troubleshoot your problems and fix it with a minimal amount of fuss.
Can’t find a solution? You don’t pay a cent.

Recent Job – Mesh Wi-Fi Install, Burke Road, Glen Iris
A client on Burke Road contacted us regarding their unreliable Wi-Fi throughout their large double storey Edwardian home for as long as they could remember, with the upstairs study and rear extension both getting a weak and inconsistent signal.
The house was a large double storey Edwardian with thick double brick external walls, internal brick partition walls on the ground floor and a rear single storey extension added at some point that sat in a wireless dead zone entirely. The existing Netgear Nighthawk router was positioned near the NBN connection point at the front of the house and was simply unable to push a usable signal through the combination of brick walls and the distance to the upstairs study and rear extension. We installed a four node TP-Link Deco X68 mesh system. We chose the Deco X68 over the Eero Pro 6E and the Netgear Orbi for this specific property. The Deco Deco X68 supports Wi-Fi 6 with a dedicated backhaul channel between nodes, which maintains strong inter-node communication even through the thick brick walls that were killing the existing router. We placed one node at the NBN connection point, one in the central ground floor hallway, one upstairs near the study and one in the rear extension. Full signal coverage throughout the entire property within the hour including the previously dead rear extension. Client had two years of Wi-Fi frustration resolved in a single visit.
Frequently Asked Questions – Computer Repairs Glen Iris
Why is my iMac so slow even though it is only a few years old?
The most common cause of a slow iMac in Glen Iris is a Fusion Drive where the SSD cache has filled and the system is running almost entirely off the slow spinning hard drive component. This gets progressively worse over time and is often mistaken for an ageing machine that needs replacing. In most cases replacing the Fusion Drive with a pure SSD and upgrading the RAM delivers a dramatic performance improvement at a fraction of the cost of a new iMac. Read our guide on how we rescued a slow Mac with an SSD upgrade and our Mac SSD upgrade service page for more detail.
Why is my Wi-Fi so unreliable in my period home in Glen Iris?
Double brick and bluestone walls in Edwardian and Victorian period homes are among the worst environments for Wi-Fi signals. They absorb and scatter wireless signals far more aggressively than modern construction materials, creating dead zones in back rooms, upstairs areas and rear extensions that a single router cannot overcome. A properly designed mesh Wi-Fi system with nodes positioned throughout the property is the only reliable solution. Read our Wi-Fi interference case study for more detail on how we approach these installs.
Do you come out to Glen Iris the same day?
Yes, in most cases we can be at your home or business the same day. Call us on 0484 357 559 or hit the book now button and one of our technicians will get back to you quickly.
My smart home devices are causing Wi-Fi problems. Can you fix that?
Yes, smart home device overload is a very common issue in Glen Iris. When too many devices are connected to the 2.4GHz band it causes congestion that affects everything from video calls to printer connectivity. We can assess your network, reconfigure your router to distribute devices correctly across 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands and recommend a mesh upgrade if the underlying hardware is not capable of managing the load. Read more in our guide on 2.4GHz vs 5GHz Wi-Fi.
Is it worth upgrading my iMac or should I buy a new one?
In most cases upgrading an iMac with a new SSD and additional RAM is significantly cheaper than buying a new machine and delivers a dramatic performance improvement. Read our guide on Mac repair vs replacement and our factors to consider before buying a new computer before making a decision. We give honest advice on whether an upgrade makes financial sense before doing any work.
Do you work on both Windows and Mac in Glen Iris?
Yes, we work on both Windows computers and Apple Macs including MacBooks, iMacs and Mac Minis. We handle everything from Fusion Drive replacements and RAM upgrades to virus removal and full network installs.
What warranty do you provide on repairs?
We back all our work with a 12-month workmanship guarantee, well above the three month standard most repair shops offer. If we can’t find a solution, you don’t pay a cent.
Do you service surrounding areas as well as Glen Iris?
Yes, we also service Malvern, Camberwell, Ashburton and Kooyong. Feel free to pass our name on to your neighbours, workmates and sports groups.
