The Basin is a bushland community nestled between Boronia and Ferntree Gully in the foothills of the Dandenong Ranges. Fine organic particulate matter from the surrounding bush environment is drawn into computer cases and laptop vents significantly faster than in urban areas, causing premature heatsink clogging, fan failures and in some cases motherboard component failures from the combination of organic dust and ambient moisture that the Ranges climate brings year round.
The Basin’s housing stock includes a high proportion of older timber homes and large bush blocks, many of which have separate workshops, studios and home offices spread across the property that a single router simply cannot cover. Whether you’re dealing with a MacBook Pro with a SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED BSOD equivalent kernel panic from a corroded RAM slot contact, a Windows desktop whose GPU has started artefacting from heatsink clogging in a dusty workshop shed or an NBN connection that loses sync every time the ground gets saturated after heavy rain, we will troubleshoot your problems and fix it with a minimal amount of fuss.
You don’t pay a cent if we can’t fix the issue.

Recent Job – Whole Block Mesh Install, Forest Road, The Basin
A client on Forest Road contacted us after facing Wi-Fi issues for a long time.
The main house was a large older timber home near the road with the NBN connection point at the front, and the workshop shed sat at the rear of a generous bush block approximately 35 metres away across open garden. There was no direct line of sight between the house and the shed as several large established gum trees sat between the two structures, creating signal obstruction that was more about vegetation absorption than wall construction.
A standard two node mesh system with nodes inside the house and inside the shed would have struggled with the tree coverage between them. We installed a three node TP-Link Deco XE75 mesh system. We chose the Deco XE75 over the Eero Pro 6E for this specific outdoor distance and vegetation obstruction scenario. The Deco XE75’s 6GHz backhaul channel handles signal absorption from vegetation better than the 5GHz backhaul used by older mesh systems, and in our experience it maintains more consistent inter-node performance across outdoor distances with moderate vegetation obstruction than the Eero Pro 6E in comparable layouts.
We positioned one node at the NBN modem near the front of the house, one centrally in the house /section of the house (called Soap House as seen in the picture) to strengthen the backhaul chain (via ethernet)and one inside the workshop shed. Signal in the shed went from zero bars to full strength. Client was able to access cloud files and send emails from the workshop (kookaburra cottage) for the first time after a long time!
Frequently Asked Questions – Computer Repairs The Basin
Why is my computer accumulating dust so much faster in The Basin than in a normal suburb?
The Basin sits in the Dandenong Ranges foothills and the surrounding bush environment produces significantly higher levels of fine organic particulate matter than flat suburban Melbourne which includes fine bark particles, pollen, fungal spores and general bush debris that gets drawn into computer cases and laptop vents at a rate that surprises most clients. Workshop environments with sawdust or other fine particles are even more aggressive. We recommend professional cleaning every six to twelve months for any machine in The Basin, and more frequently for machines kept in workshops.
Read more about protecting your computer from dust on our blog.
My GPU keeps throwing display corruption and crashing. Does it need replacing?
Not necessarily. In The Basin’s bush environment, GPU display corruption and crashes are very commonly caused by heatsink clogging from organic dust rather than actual GPU hardware failure. A thorough clean and thermal paste replacement resolves the issue in the majority of cases without any replacement parts needed. We always run a full thermal diagnostic before recommending a GPU replacement to confirm whether the fault is thermal or hardware in origin.

Do you come out to The Basin the same day?
Yes, in most cases we can be at your home or business the same day. Call us on 0484 357 559 or hit the book now button and one of our technicians will get back to you quickly.
Can you set up Wi-Fi that covers my whole bush block including the shed and workshop?
Yes, large bush blocks with separate outbuildings, workshops and studios are one of the most common Wi-Fi jobs we do in The Basin area. Vegetation obstruction between the house and outbuildings is a specific challenge that requires careful node placement rather than just standard mesh positioning. We assess your specific block layout and install the right mesh Wi-Fi system to give you reliable coverage throughout. Read our post on Wi-Fi and NBN options for separate outbuildings for more detail.
My NBN drops out after heavy rain. What is causing that?
Wet weather NBN dropouts in The Basin are almost always caused by moisture entering cable pits or junction boxes in the copper FTTN network infrastructure. Root intrusion from the heavily vegetated terrain in the Ranges accelerates damage to cable pit seals over time, allowing water ingress that increases line resistance and causes FTTN connections to drop sync after sustained rain. A modem upgrade to a unit with better tolerance for marginal line conditions significantly reduces dropout frequency in most cases. Read our guide on why internet keeps dropping out and our post on what to try when NBN keeps dropping out.
Do you work on both Windows and Mac in The Basin?
Yes, we work on both Windows computers and Apple Macs including MacBooks, iMacs and Mac Minis. We handle everything from GPU thermal cleaning and RAM contact restoration to SSD and RAM upgrades and data recovery.
What warranty do you provide on repairs?
We back all our work with a 12-month workmanship guarantee, well above the three month standard most repair shops offer. If we can’t find a solution, you don’t pay a cent.
Do you service surrounding areas as well as The Basin?
Yes, we also service Boronia, Ferntree Gully, Bayswater and Scoresby. Feel free to pass our name on to your neighbours, workmates and sports groups.
