Looking for computer repairs in Dromana?

Founded in 2016 and Aussie owned and operated, our hand-picked team of qualified computer engineers are extensively trained in all PC, Mac, laptop and desktop repairs and upgrades. We provide fast, same-day service to your home or business.

Dromana is a popular Mornington Peninsula community sitting directly on Port Phillip Bay, and the combination of bay exposure – salt air from the bay accelerates oxidation on motherboard contacts, SSD connector pins and GPU slot contacts in properties close to the water, particularly in homes that sit on the beachside of Point Nepean Road where the sea breeze carries marine aerosols directly through open windows and ventilation gaps. We also see an increasing volume of home office setup requests in Dromana, from dual monitor configurations and printer setups to proper home network installs for people who have moved down from Melbourne and are setting up a functional work from home environment for the first time.

Whether you’re dealing with a MacBook with intermittent charging from a corroded USB-C port, a Windows desktop with display output problems preventing a second monitor from being detected or a fixed wireless NBN connection that cannot maintain a stable sync during peak evening hours, we will troubleshoot your problems and fix it with a minimal amount of fuss.

Recent Job – Dual Monitor Setup & Home Office Configuration, Boundary Road, Dromana

A client on Boundary Road contacted us after relocating permanently from Melbourne to Dromana. They had been working in a corporate office environment for the previous several years and had decided to go fully remote.

Their employer had supplied a Dell Latitude 5540 laptop as their primary work device and they had purchased two Samsung monitors, a USB-C hub, a wireless keyboard and mouse and a Logitech webcam to set up a proper home office. Despite spending a day trying to get everything working themselves, they had run into a series of problems.

Only one monitor was displaying an image while the second showed no signal at all, the webcam was being detected intermittently, the USB-C hub was not consistently charging the laptop and the whole setup felt unstable and unreliable. dual monitor setup dromana

The client had connected both Samsung monitors to the USB-C hub using DisplayPort cables and connected the hub to the laptop via a single USB-C cable. This is a very common source of confusion in dual monitor setups.

Not all USB-C hubs support dual monitor output simultaneously, and the particular hub the client had purchased, a generic unbranded unit they had ordered online, only supported a single DisplayPort output at a time despite advertising dual display capability. The second monitor had never been going to display an image through that hub regardless of any software configuration.

We replaced the generic hub with an Anker 575 USB-C Hub specifically chosen for the Dell Latitude 5540. The Anker 575 uses DisplayLink technology on its secondary video output, which allows a second monitor to be driven independently of the laptop’s native GPU output through the USB-C connection. We chose the Anker 575 over alternatives like the Plugable UD-6950H and the CalDigit TS4 for specific reasons.

After installing the Anker 575 and the correct DisplayLink driver version for Windows 11, both monitors came up immediately. We configured the displays in Windows Display Settings, set the primary monitor to the left screen and the secondary to the right, adjusted the scaling to 150 percent on both displays for comfortable 4K working distance, and confirmed the refresh rate on each monitor was correctly set to 60Hz.

Frequently Asked Questions – Computer Repairs Dromana

Can you help set up dual monitors for a home office in Dromana?

Yes, dual monitor setup is one of the most common home office jobs we do on the Peninsula for Melbourne relocators. Getting two monitors working correctly depends on matching the right hub or docking station to your specific laptop model and connection type. Not all USB-C hubs support dual monitor output simultaneously and choosing the wrong one is the most common reason setups fail. We assess your specific laptop and monitor combination and recommend and configure the right solution.

Read our computer setup service page for more detail.

My second monitor is not being detected. What could cause that?

The most common cause is a USB-C hub or docking station that does not support dual monitor output simultaneously despite advertising that it does. The second most common cause is a missing or outdated DisplayLink driver if the hub uses DisplayLink technology for its secondary output. We diagnose the specific cause on site and configure everything correctly including display arrangement, scaling and refresh rate settings in Windows or macOS.

Do you come out to Dromana the same day?

Yes, in most cases we can be at your home or property the same day. Call us on 0484 357 559 or hit the book now button and one of our technicians will get back to you quickly.

Will my fixed wireless NBN cope with full time remote work including video calls?

It depends on your current signal levels and modem configuration. Fixed wireless NBN can absolutely handle full time remote work when it is properly configured with correct QoS settings prioritising video call traffic. Marginal signal levels can be improved in some cases by antenna repositioning. We assess your specific setup and advise honestly on whether it will meet your needs or whether an NBN alternative should be considered. Read our guide on why NBN is slow for more context.

My laptop won’t charge properly after being at the beach house. What could cause that?

Intermittent charging on a laptop stored near the bay in Dromana is very commonly caused by salt air oxidation on the USB-C or charging port contacts rather than a battery or charging circuit failure. In many cases a thorough cleaning of the port resolves the issue without any parts replacement. Read our guide on whether it is worth repairing your Mac or laptop if you are weighing up repair versus replacement.

Do you work on both Windows and Mac in Dromana?

Yes, we work on both Windows computers and Apple Macs including MacBooks, iMacs and Mac Minis. We handle everything from home office setup and dual monitor configuration to SSD and RAM upgrades and data recovery.

What warranty do you provide on repairs?

We back all our work with a 12-month workmanship guarantee, well above the three month standard most repair shops offer. If we can’t find a solution, you don’t pay a cent.

Do you service surrounding areas as well as Dromana?

Yes, we also service Safety Beach, McCrae, Rosebud and Arthurs Seat. Feel free to pass our name on to your neighbours, workmates and sports groups.
