Looking for computer repairs in Chadstone?

Chadstone is a busy inner south-eastern suburb centred around one of Australia’s largest shopping centres, with a growing mix of established family homes, newer apartment developments and a high concentration of small businesses and retail operators. The density and variety of this environment creates a specific set of tech problems we deal with regularly out here. The apartment developments around the Chadstone shopping precinct suffer from the same Wi-Fi channel congestion issues we see across dense inner suburban Melbourne, where dozens of competing networks fight for the same 2.4GHz and 5GHz channels and cause dropouts and slow speeds that look like an ISP problem but are actually an interference problem. Small businesses along Capon Street and the surrounding retail and commercial strip deal regularly with network reliability issues from consumer grade routers pushed beyond their capacity by multiple simultaneous users and POS systems. On the residential side we see a consistent volume of Apple Mac repairs in Chadstone, particularly iMacs with ageing Fusion Drives running well below their original performance and MacBook Pros with dried out thermal paste causing them to thermal throttle and shut down during sustained work from home tasks. Windows laptops with NTFS file system corruption from improper shutdowns are another regular call out, particularly on family machines where power is cut abruptly rather than shut down properly. Whether you’re dealing with a MacBook Air with a swollen battery pushing the base plate out of alignment, an HP laptop throwing a NTFS_FILE_SYSTEM BSOD from NTFS corruption or a home network that falls apart whenever the whole family is online simultaneously, we will troubleshoot your problems and fix it with a minimal amount of fuss.
Can’t find a solution? You don’t pay a cent.

Recent Job – HP Laptop NTFS_FILE_SYSTEM BSOD & iMac Fusion Drive Upgrade, Dandenong Road, Chadstone
A client on Dandenong Road contacted us with two separate machines that needed attention. The first was an HP Pavilion 15 laptop belonging to their teenager that had been throwing a NTFS_FILE_SYSTEM BSOD and refusing to boot into Windows for the past two days. The second was the family iMac 21.5 inch 2015 that had been running painfully slowly for over a year and which the client had been assuming needed replacing.
A NTFS_FILE_SYSTEM BSOD is a Windows error that indicates critical corruption of the NTFS file system on the boot drive, usually caused by the machine being powered off improperly during a write operation rather than shut down cleanly. This is a very common fault on teenage and family machines where power strips get switched off without shutting down first, or where the machine runs out of battery mid operation. We booted from an external USB diagnostic environment and ran CHKDSK on the drive. The scan returned over 800 file system errors including corrupted MFT entries and orphaned file allocation chains, which explained why Windows could not complete the boot process. The drive itself was physically healthy with a clean CrystalDiskInfo health report, meaning the corruption was purely logical rather than hardware related.
We ran a full CHKDSK repair pass which resolved the majority of the corruption, then booted into Windows Recovery and ran additional SFC and DISM commands to repair corrupted Windows system files that CHKDSK cannot address. After the repair sequence the machine booted cleanly into Windows. We then checked what files had been in use during the last improper shutdown and confirmed no user documents had been lost in the corruption. We set up automatic Windows shutdown scheduling and advised the family on proper shutdown procedure to reduce the risk of recurrence. No parts replacement was needed and the laptop was back in use the same day.
We then turned attention to the iMac 21.5 inch 2015. Running a diagnostic confirmed it was on the original 1TB Fusion Drive with 8GB of RAM. Activity Monitor showed the system was spending enormous amounts of time waiting on storage operations, the classic indicator of a Fusion Drive where the small SSD cache has filled and the system is running almost entirely off the slow spinning hard drive component. On top of the Fusion Drive performance issues the spinning hard drive component was showing a degraded health score in its SMART data, meaning the drive was not only slow but actively in the early stages of failure.
We replaced the failing Fusion Drive with a Crucial MX500 1TB SSD. We also upgraded the RAM from 8GB to 16GB using a Crucial 16GB DDR3 1600MHz kit, certified compatible with that iMac model. After both upgrades the iMac booted in under twenty seconds and applications opened almost instantly. The client said it was faster than it had been on the day they bought it. Two machines, one visit, both sorted completely.
Frequently Asked Questions – Computer Repairs Chadstone
What causes a NTFS_FILE_SYSTEM BSOD on Windows?
A NTFS_FILE_SYSTEM BSOD is caused by critical corruption of the NTFS file system on the boot drive, almost always from the machine being powered off improperly during a write operation. This is particularly common on family and teenage machines where power strips are switched off without shutting down first. In most cases the drive itself is physically healthy and the corruption can be repaired without replacing any hardware. Our post on what to do when Windows cannot find a bootable device covers related boot failure scenarios.
My iMac is running very slowly. Is it worth upgrading?
In most cases yes. Slow iMacs in Chadstone are almost always caused by an ageing Fusion Drive where the SSD cache has filled and the system is running off the slow spinning component. Replacing the Fusion Drive with a pure SSD and upgrading the RAM delivers a dramatic performance improvement at a fraction of the cost of a new machine. Read our guide on how we rescued a slow Mac with an SSD upgrade and our Mac SSD upgrade service page for more detail.
Do you come out to Chadstone the same day?
Yes, in most cases we can be at your home or business the same day. Call us on 0484 357 559 or hit the book now button and one of our technicians will get back to you quickly.

Apartment buildings near the Chadstone shopping precinct suffer from significant Wi-Fi channel congestion, with dozens of competing networks from neighbouring apartments all fighting for the same 2.4GHz and 5GHz channels. This causes dropouts and slow speeds that look like an ISP problem but are actually a Wi-Fi environment problem. Read our guide on the difference between 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi and our Wi-Fi interference case study for more detail on how we approach this.
Can you help small businesses in the Chadstone area with their IT setup?
Yes, we provide small business IT support throughout Chadstone and the surrounding retail and commercial area including network setup, Wi-Fi installation, POS system support and business backup systems.
Do you work on both Windows and Mac in Chadstone?

Do you service surrounding areas as well as Chadstone?
