We provide fast, same-day service to your home or business.
Belgrave is a leafy outer suburb at the end of the Belgrave train line with a tight knit community of families, creatives and small business owners who rely heavily on technology every day. One thing we notice out here more than most suburbs is the impact of the local environment on hardware. Dust and moisture from the Dandenong Ranges accelerates fan and heatsink clogging on desktops and laptops far faster than in drier inner suburbs, which leads to more frequent CPU thermal throttling, premature PSU failures and in some cases capacitor damage on motherboards in machines that have been running hot for extended periods. We also see a higher than average number of NBN connectivity issues out here tied to older FTTN infrastructure in parts of the suburb, and Wi-Fi coverage problems in the larger timber homes common throughout Belgrave where thick walls and split level layouts make single router setups completely inadequate. Whether you’re dealing with a Lenovo laptop that won’t boot past the manufacturer logo due to a corrupted boot sector, an HP desktop throwing a BSOD with a DRIVER_IRQL error after a Windows update or a MacBook with a swollen battery causing the trackpad to stop clicking, we will troubleshoot your problems and fix it with a minimal amount of fuss.
We work across all kinds of devices and setups including:
- Windows PCs, Lenovo and HP laptops and Apple Macs
- Smartphones, tablets and smart home devices

Recent Job – NBN Dropout Fix & Whole Home Mesh Install, Main Road, Belgrave
A client on Main Road contacted us after dealing with NBN dropouts multiple times a day for several months. Their ISP had already sent a technician out twice who replaced the NBN connection box on both visits and declared the line clean each time, but the dropouts continued without fail. The client was running a small graphic design business from home and the constant disconnections were causing lost work and missed client deadlines. They also mentioned the Wi-Fi signal in their back studio where they did most of their design work was so weak it was essentially unusable.
Our technician visited the same day. Belgrave sits in an area served predominantly by NBN FTTN infrastructure, which uses the existing copper telephone lines for the last stretch of the connection into the property. FTTN connections are more sensitive to modem quality and line conditions than fibre connections and older modems in particular struggle to maintain a stable sync on longer copper runs. The client was running an Netgear D6400 modem router that was several years old. We connected directly to the NBN connection point and ran a series of line tests. The line itself was clean and the signal levels coming into the property were within acceptable parameters, which confirmed the ISP technician had been correct about the line on both visits. The problem was the modem.
We monitored the Netgear D6400 through its admin panel over an extended period and observed it dropping sync with the DSLAM repeatedly, particularly during peak evening hours when line utilisation in the area increases. That generation of Netgear modem has well documented firmware issues with NBN FTTN connections under sustained load and Netgear had not pushed a firmware update for that model in over two years. A modem that cannot maintain sync reliability on FTTN is not something you patch around, it needs replacing.
We recommended the TP-Link VR2100. We chose the VR2100 over alternatives including the Netgear Nighthawk DST and the ASUS DSL-AX82U for specific reasons. The TP-Link VR2100 has a demonstrably better VDSL2 sync stability record on Australian NBN FTTN connections than both alternatives, its thermal design handles continuous 24 hour operation significantly better than the Nighthawk which is known to run hot under sustained use, and its firmware is actively maintained and updated. The ASUS DSL-AX82U was also considered because of its Wi-Fi 6 capability but for a client whose primary issue was NBN sync stability rather than Wi-Fi speed, paying a premium for Wi-Fi 6 on the modem made no sense when we were planning a dedicated mesh system for the Wi-Fi coverage problem anyway. We configured the VR2100 to the client’s Aussie Broadband settings, put it in modem only mode to hand off Wi-Fi duties entirely to the mesh system and monitored the connection for an extended period on site. Sync was rock solid throughout.
For the Wi-Fi we assessed the property carefully. The house was a large split level timber home on a decent block, a very common style throughout Belgrave, with the home studio in a separate rear section of the property connected by a long timber-floored hallway. The NBN connection point was near the front of the house leaving the studio at the far end with almost no usable signal. Split level timber homes present a different challenge to brick homes. Timber framing does not block Wi-Fi as aggressively as brick but the split levels create floor and ceiling angles that scatter signals unpredictably, and the separation between the main house and the studio section meant distance was also a factor.
We installed a three node Eero Pro 6E mesh system. We recommended the Eero Pro 6E over the TP-Link Deco XE75 and the Netgear Orbi for this specific property and client. The Eero Pro 6E handles the 6GHz backhaul between nodes with noticeably better consistency in properties with irregular layouts like split level homes compared to the Deco XE75 in our experience. The Netgear Orbi RBK863S was also considered because of its dedicated backhaul channel but the three pack price point for that model was significantly higher than the Eero for a property of this size and the performance difference did not justify the cost for a home studio rather than a high density commercial environment. The Eero Pro 6E also has the cleanest and most reliable app based management of any mesh system we work with regularly, which suited a client who wanted it to just work without ongoing tinkering. We placed one node at the VR2100 near the front of the house, one in the central hallway and one in the studio itself. Signal in the studio went from one flickering bar to full five bar coverage. The client ran a speed test from the studio and got within five percent of the full plan speed, which is an excellent result for that distance and layout. Dropouts have been zero since installation. Client called us two weeks later to say it was the first time in over a year they had got through a full working day without a single disconnection.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does my computer keep overheating in Belgrave compared to when I lived closer to the city? The Dandenong Ranges environment has higher ambient moisture and dust levels than inner suburban areas. This accelerates the buildup of dust and debris inside computer cases, particularly around heatsinks and fans, which restricts airflow and causes machines to run hotter than normal. We recommend having desktops and laptops professionally cleaned every twelve to eighteen months if you live in the Belgrave area.
My NBN keeps dropping out and my ISP says the line is fine. What else could it be?
In most cases the issue is the modem rather than the line. Parts of Belgrave are on FTTN infrastructure which is more sensitive to modem quality than fibre connections. Older modems in particular struggle to maintain sync stability on FTTN. We can assess your modem and connection and recommend the right replacement if needed.
Do you come out to Belgrave the same day?
Yes, in most cases we can be at your home or business the same day. Call us on 0484 357 559 or hit the book now button and one of our technicians will get back to you quickly.
Can you fix Wi-Fi dead zones in my split level home?
Yes, split level homes are one of the most common Wi-Fi jobs we do in Belgrave. The irregular layouts and floor level changes scatter Wi-Fi signals unpredictably. We assess your property layout and install the right mesh system to give you full coverage throughout including outbuildings and studios.
My laptop keeps shutting down randomly with no error message. What could cause that?
Random shutdowns with no BSOD are often thermal related, particularly in Belgrave where dust buildup happens faster than average. It can also be a failing PSU on a desktop, a swollen battery on a laptop or in some cases a RAM fault. We run a full diagnostic to identify the exact cause before recommending any repair.
Do you repair Apple Macs as well as Windows computers in Belgrave?
Yes, we work on both Windows computers and Apple Macs including MacBooks, iMacs and Mac Minis. We handle everything from data recovery and logic board repairs to SSD upgrades, swollen battery replacements and software issues.
What warranty do you provide on repairs?
We back all our work with a 12-month workmanship guarantee, well above the three month standard most repair shops offer. If we can’t find a solution, you don’t pay a cent.
Do you service surrounding areas as well as Belgrave?
Yes, we also service Belgrave Heights, Gembrook, Tecoma and Upper Beaconsfield. Feel free to pass our name on to your neighbours, workmates and sports groups.
