Looking for computer repairs in Shoreham? Computer Technicians is here to help. Founded in 2016 and Aussie owned and operated, our hand-picked team of qualified computer engineers are extensively trained in all PC, Mac, laptop and desktop repairs and upgrades. We provide fast, same-day service to your home or business.
Shoreham is a quiet coastal community on the Mornington Peninsula and the local environment creates some very specific hardware problems we see regularly out here. Salt air from the bay accelerates corrosion on motherboard contacts, RAM slots and PCIe connectors on machines stored in beach houses that are not climate controlled year round, causing intermittent faults that are often mistaken for software issues. Holiday homes that sit closed for months at a time and then get powered up suddenly are particularly prone to capacitor failures and PSU faults from the combination of moisture ingress and extended idle periods. NBN connectivity out here is also a different beast to inner suburban areas. Much of Shoreham relies on NBN fixed wireless or Sky Muster satellite rather than fibre or FTTN, and these connection types have their own specific troubleshooting requirements that most generic IT providers simply do not understand. Whether you’re dealing with a Dell laptop with corroded RAM contacts causing random freezes, a Mac Mini that won’t post after sitting in a holiday home over winter or a fixed wireless NBN connection that drops out every time it rains, we will troubleshoot your problems and fix it with a minimal amount of fuss.

Why Choose Computer Technicians in Shoreham?
We are not a call centre operation that dispatches whoever is available. Every technician we send out is a qualified computer engineer, full time on our team, no contractors. We understand the specific hardware challenges that come with coastal living on the Mornington Peninsula. Salt air, moisture and the thermal cycling that holiday homes go through sitting idle for months before being fired up again are harder on computer hardware than most people realise, and we know exactly what to look for. As an official Microsoft Partner carrying $20M public liability insurance, with over 600 five-star reviews on Google and ProductReview.com.au, you know you’re dealing with a professional outfit that stands behind its work with a 12-month workmanship guarantee. If we can’t fix it, you don’t pay a cent.
Not only can we repair your computers in Shoreham, we also service your neighbours in Balnarring, Red Hill, Merricks and Main Ridge. Feel free to mention us to your sports groups, workmates, friends and family.

Recent Job – Mac Mini Corrosion Fault & Data Recovery, Stumpy Gully Road, Shoreham
A client on Stumpy Gully Road contacted us after their Mac Mini 2018 failed to boot after being left in their holiday home over a long winter period. The property had been closed up for nearly five months with no climate control running, and when the client arrived for the summer and powered the Mac Mini on it simply showed a flashing folder icon with a question mark and would not proceed past that point. They had several years worth of family photos, documents and personal files on the machine with no offsite backup.
Our technician visited the same day and ran a full diagnostic. A flashing folder with a question mark on a Mac means the machine cannot locate a valid startup disk, which points toward either a failed drive, a corrupted boot partition or in some cases a loose or corroded connection between the SSD and the logic board. On the 2018 Mac Mini the SSD is soldered directly to the logic board, which ruled out a loose connection. We ran Apple Diagnostics and a series of storage tests. The SSD was being detected intermittently, reading correctly on some passes and throwing errors on others. This kind of intermittent detection fault on a soldered SSD in a Mac Mini that has been in a coastal environment for an extended idle period is almost always caused by oxidation and corrosion on the NVMe controller contacts on the logic board rather than a failed SSD itself.
We brought the Mac Mini back to the lab and opened it up for a closer inspection. Under magnification we could see light but consistent oxidation on the NVMe controller area of the logic board, consistent with salt air exposure over the five month idle period. We cleaned the affected area using isopropyl alcohol and specialist contact cleaning solution applied with precision tools, then dried and reassembled the board. After cleaning we ran the storage diagnostics again. The SSD was now detecting cleanly and consistently across multiple passes with no errors.
We then booted the Mac Mini into macOS Recovery and ran First Aid on the drive using Disk Utility. The boot partition had minor corruption, likely from the machine being powered on and attempting to boot while the SSD connection was intermittent before the client called us. First Aid repaired the partition successfully and the Mac Mini booted cleanly into macOS on the next attempt with all the client’s data fully intact.
Before returning the machine we transferred a complete backup of all photos, documents and personal files onto a Samsung T7 Shield 1TB portable SSD. We chose the Samsung T7 Shield specifically because its IP65 dust and water resistance rating makes it a sensible choice for a client whose files are stored in a coastal holiday home environment. We also set the client up with automatic iCloud backup for the most critical photo libraries going forward so they would never be in the same position again. Client was relieved to have everything recovered without any data loss and said it was the first time they had properly understood why backing up matters.
Frequently Asked Questions – Computer Repairs Shoreham
Why does my computer fail after sitting in my holiday home over winter?
Holiday homes on the Mornington Peninsula that are closed up for extended periods expose hardware to salt air, moisture and temperature fluctuations without the climate control that keeps indoor environments stable. This causes corrosion on motherboard contacts and RAM slots, capacitor failures on older desktop builds and PSU faults from moisture ingress. We recommend running a dehumidifier in any room where computers are stored in coastal properties during extended idle periods.
My Mac is showing a flashing folder with a question mark. What does that mean?
A flashing folder with a question mark means your Mac cannot find a valid startup disk. In coastal environments this is often caused by corrosion on the SSD controller contacts rather than a completely failed drive, which means data recovery is frequently possible even when the machine won’t boot. Call us before assuming the data is gone. Read our guide on whether it is worth repairing your Mac for more context.
Do you come out to Shoreham the same day?
Yes, in most cases we can be at your home or property the same day. Call us on 0484 357 559 or hit the book now button and one of our technicians will get back to you quickly.
My NBN fixed wireless keeps dropping out when it rains. Is that fixable?
Yes, rain fade on NBN fixed wireless connections is a known issue and is almost always related to the alignment or condition of the external antenna rather than the NBN network itself. We can assess your fixed wireless setup, check antenna alignment and signal levels and recommend the right solution. We also cover NBN alternatives for properties where fixed wireless performance is consistently poor.
Can you help set up Wi-Fi that covers my whole Shoreham property?
Yes, rural and semi-rural properties on the Mornington Peninsula often have outbuildings, garages and large gardens that a single router simply cannot cover. We assess your property layout and install the right mesh Wi-Fi system to give you reliable coverage throughout. Read our post on NBN and Wi-Fi options for granny flats and outbuildings for more detail.
Do you work on both Windows and Mac in Shoreham?
Yes, we work on both Windows computers and Apple Macs including MacBooks, iMacs and Mac Minis. We handle everything from data recovery and corrosion cleaning to SSD and RAM upgrades and software issues.
What warranty do you provide on repairs?
We back all our work with a 12-month workmanship guarantee, well above the three month standard most repair shops offer. If we can’t find a solution, you don’t pay a cent.
Do you service surrounding areas as well as Shoreham?
Yes, we also service Balnarring, Red Hill, Merricks and Main Ridge. Feel free to pass our name on to your neighbours, workmates and sports groups.
