Noble Park is a busy, diverse suburb in Melbourne’s south-east with a strong mix of families, small businesses and light industrial operators, and we see a wide variety of tech problems out here on a regular basis. Virus and malware infections are one of the most common calls we get from Noble Park, particularly from home users and small business owners who have clicked a suspicious link or downloaded something they shouldn’t have. Antivirus software alone is not always enough to catch modern threats, and by the time most people notice something is wrong the infection has usually been running in the background for weeks. We also see a high volume of ageing laptops and desktops with failing HDDs being mistaken for virus problems when the real issue is a dying drive causing slow performance and random freezes. NBN dropouts tied to ageing modems are another regular job out here, particularly in the older residential streets where original equipment has been running for years without being replaced. Whether you’re dealing with a Lenovo laptop running a hidden cryptominer, an HP desktop with a failing HDD throwing read errors in Event Viewer or a home network that drops out every evening during peak hours, we will troubleshoot your problems and fix it with a minimal amount of fuss.
Can’t find a solution? You don’t pay a cent.

Recent Job – Cryptominer Removal & HDD Replacement, Princes Highway, Noble Park
A client on Princes Highway contacted us after their Lenovo IdeaPad 3 had been running unbearably slowly for several weeks. The machine was taking over ten minutes to boot, browser tabs were loading slowly and the laptop fan was running at full speed constantly even when nothing appeared to be open. The client had run a Windows Defender scan themselves which had come back clean, and they were starting to assume the laptop was simply too old to use.
Our technician visited the same day and ran a full diagnostic. The first thing we checked was Task Manager. CPU usage was sitting at 85 to 90 percent consistently with the machine at idle, which immediately ruled out a simple age related performance issue. A machine that old running that hot at idle with nothing visible in Task Manager is almost always hiding something. We booted into Safe Mode to prevent startup programs and background processes from loading and ran Malwarebytes and ESET offline scanners. Both flagged an active cryptocurrency miner that had been running silently in the background, disguised as a legitimate Windows system process. The miner had been installed through a malicious browser extension the client had unknowingly added several weeks earlier, which explained exactly when the performance problems had started.
We removed the cryptominer and all associated files completely, cleaned out the browser extensions across all installed browsers and ran a second full scan to confirm the machine was clean. CPU usage at idle dropped from 85 percent back to 4 percent immediately after removal.
While we had the machine open we ran a full hardware diagnostic. The original 1TB spinning HDD was showing a degraded health score in CrystalDiskInfo with a high pending sector count, meaning the drive was in the early stages of failure. The slow boot times the client had been experiencing were partly the cryptominer and partly the failing drive working against each other. We recommended replacing the drive before it failed completely. We replaced it with a Crucial MX500 500GB SSD. We chose the Crucial MX500 over cheaper alternatives like the Kingston A400 for a specific reason. The Lenovo IdeaPad 3 runs warm under normal use and the Kingston A400 uses older TLC NAND that has a weaker thermal tolerance under sustained workloads in laptops that run on the warmer side. The Crucial MX500 uses 3D NAND with a more reliable controller that handles thermal fluctuations better and carries a three year warranty. We migrated all the client’s data across to the new SSD, did a clean Windows 11 install and ran the machine through a full stress test before handing it back. Boot times dropped from over ten minutes to under fifteen seconds. Client was convinced they needed a new laptop and was genuinely surprised at the difference a clean machine and a new SSD made.
Frequently Asked Questions – Computer Repairs Noble Park
My computer is running slowly but my antivirus says it is clean. What else could it be?
There are two common explanations. The first is a modern malware infection like a cryptominer that is specifically designed to evade standard antivirus tools. The second is a failing hard drive causing slow read and write speeds that mimic the symptoms of an infection. We run a full diagnostic covering both hardware and active processes to identify the real cause. Read more about the limitations of antivirus software on our blog.
What is a cryptominer and how do I know if I have one?
A cryptominer is malicious software that uses your CPU and GPU to mine cryptocurrency for someone else without your knowledge. The telltale signs are a machine running hot and slow with the fan constantly at full speed, even when nothing appears to be open. High CPU usage at idle in Task Manager is the clearest indicator. If you are seeing these symptoms call us and we will diagnose and remove it properly. Our virus and malware removal service covers all types of infections including cryptominers.
Do you come out to Noble Park the same day?
Yes, in most cases we can be at your home or business the same day. Call us on 0484 357 559 or hit the book now button and one of our technicians will get back to you quickly.
My NBN keeps dropping out in the evenings. What is causing that?
Evening dropouts on NBN are most commonly caused by either an ageing modem struggling to maintain sync during peak hour congestion or Wi-Fi interference on the 2.4GHz band from neighbouring networks that becomes worse when everyone is home. Check our guide on why home internet keeps dropping out and our post on why NBN is slow for more detail.
Is it worth replacing the hard drive in my old laptop or should I just buy a new one?
In most cases replacing a failing HDD with an SSD is significantly cheaper than buying a new laptop and delivers a dramatic performance improvement. Read our guide on factors to consider before purchasing a new computer and our post on why SSDs are worth the investment before making a decision. We give honest advice on whether a repair makes financial sense before doing any work.
Do you work on both Windows and Mac in Noble Park?
Yes, we work on both Windows computers and Apple Macs including MacBooks, iMacs and Mac Minis. We handle everything from virus removal and data recovery to SSD and RAM upgrades and software issues.
What warranty do you provide on repairs?
We back all our work with a 12-month workmanship guarantee, well above the three month standard most repair shops offer. If we can’t find a solution, you don’t pay a cent.
Do you service surrounding areas as well as Noble Park?
Yes, we also service Springvale, Keysborough, Dandenong and Scoresby. Feel free to pass our name on to your neighbours, workmates and sports groups.
