Mordialloc is a well established bayside suburb sitting between Chelsea and Mentone on Port Phillip Bay, with a mix of older established homes, newer apartment developments along the foreshore and a strong community of families and professionals who rely on their tech every day. One of the most common calls we get from Mordialloc is for slow computers, particularly older all-in-one desktops and family PCs that are still running original spinning hard drives.
These machines were perfectly capable when they were bought but ageing HDDs degrade in performance over time as they accumulate fragmented data, bad sectors and general wear, leaving owners assuming the machine is at end of life when in reality a simple drive upgrade would give it years more useful life.
The mild salt air from the bay also creates gradual oxidation on charging ports and connector contacts on machines in foreshore properties, causing intermittent charging and connectivity issues that are easily mistaken for component failures. Wi-Fi interference is another recurring issue in Mordialloc, where the growing number of apartment developments along the bay foreshore means competing network density is increasing, and older routers in the established homes further back from the foreshore struggle with both the interference and the larger floor plans of period homes.
Whether you’re dealing with an HP all-in-one desktop that takes ten minutes to open a browser tab, a MacBook with intermittent charging from a salt air corroded port or a home network that cannot keep up with a family of four all online simultaneously, we will troubleshoot your problems and fix it with a minimal amount of fuss.

Recent Job – HP Pavilion All-In-One SSD Upgrade, Main Street, Mordialloc
A client on Main Street contacted us after their HP Pavilion All-in-One 24 desktop had become almost completely unusable.
The machine was taking close to fifteen minutes to boot from power on to a usable desktop, browser tabs were taking several minutes to load, Microsoft Word was timing out when opening documents and the whole experience had deteriorated to the point where the family had stopped using it entirely and were sharing a single laptop between four people. The client assumed the machine was simply too old to use and had been researching new computers, but a friend had suggested calling us first to get an opinion.
We connected monitoring software and checked drive health using CrystalDiskInfo. The original 1TB Seagate BarraCuda spinning HDD was sitting at 73 percent health with a moderate reallocated sector count and showing average response times of over 18 milliseconds on read operations.
The primary storage bay accepts a standard 3.5 inch HDD but upgrading to an SSD requires a 2.5 inch SSD with a 3.5 inch adapter bracket .We opened the machine and confirmed this particular unit only accepted the 3.5 inch bay.
We installed a Samsung 500GB EVO – for it being best in class in terms of warranty, speed and endurance. Cloned the data.
The machine booted to the login screen in under twelve seconds. Word opened in under two seconds. Browser tabs loaded instantly.
The difference was so dramatic the client called their partner over to watch the machine boot and open applications. They said it felt like a completely different computer. We also recommended they run a basic monthly backup of the Documents folder to an external drive, which we set up before leaving.
The family has since stopped sharing the laptop and gone back to using the all-in-one as their primary household machine.
Frequently Asked Questions – Computer Repairs Mordialloc
My computer is running very slowly. Does it need replacing?
In most cases no. Slow desktop and all-in-one computers in Mordialloc are almost always caused by an ageing spinning HDD rather than a fundamental hardware fault. Replacing it with an SSD delivers a dramatic performance improvement at a fraction of the cost of a new machine. Read our guide on how we rescued a slow machine with an SSD upgrade and our post on why SSDs are worth the investment before deciding to replace a machine.
Can you upgrade the storage in an HP all-in-one desktop?
Yes, HP Pavilion and Envy all-in-one desktops are very upgradeable despite their compact form factor. Many models have both a 3.5 inch drive bay and an available M.2 slot on the motherboard that HP leaves unpopulated as a cost saving measure. We assess the specific configuration of your machine and recommend the best upgrade path. Read our computer upgrades service page for more detail on what we offer.
Do you come out to Mordialloc the same day?
Yes, in most cases we can be at your home or business the same day. Call us on 0484 357 559 or hit the book now button and one of our technicians will get back to you quickly.
My Wi-Fi keeps dropping out. What could be causing that?
Wi-Fi dropouts in Mordialloc are most commonly caused by either channel congestion from the growing number of competing networks in the foreshore apartment developments or by an ageing router struggling to keep up with the number of devices a modern household runs simultaneously. Read our guide on the difference between 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi and our post on why home internet keeps dropping out for more context.
Is it worth upgrading my old desktop or should I just buy a new one?
Read our guide on factors to consider before buying a new computer before making a decision. In many cases an SSD upgrade and RAM top-up costs a fraction of a new machine and delivers a comparable improvement in day to day performance. We give honest advice on whether an upgrade makes financial sense before doing any work.
Do you work on both Windows and Mac in Mordialloc?
Yes, we work on both Windows computers and Apple Macs including MacBooks, iMacs and Mac Minis. We handle everything from HDD to SSD upgrades and virus removal to Mac RAM upgrades and full network installs.
What warranty do you provide on repairs?
We back all our work with a 12-month workmanship guarantee, well above the three month standard most repair shops offer. If we can’t find a solution, you don’t pay a cent.
Do you service surrounding areas as well as Mordialloc?
Yes, we also service Mentone, Chelsea, Parkdale and Edithvale.
